What Is Gastric Balloon Surgery?
Healthy eating is a learned habit, and it’s arguably the most difficult habit to adopt when trying to lose weight. Gastric balloon surgery can help with portion control. The balloon sits in the stomach so you feel fuller faster. Consequently, you train your brain to crave less food, allowing you to maintain your weight loss long after the gastric balloon is removed.
We Offer Two Kinds of Gastric Balloons
Both balloons are inserted into the stomach during a brief procedure and removed six months later.
The Orbera balloon can be placed in about half an hour here in our office. The doctor inserts a soft silicone balloon into the stomach through the esophagus before filling it with saline. The patient is mildly sedated for this procedure.
The Obalon balloon is swallowed in a small capsule; it is then inflated with gas. Insertion takes 10 minutes with no sedation or downtime. Two additional Obalon balloons are inserted over the following three months.
Gastric balloon surgery is by no means a miracle cure. It’s a minimally invasive procedure that, along with diet and exercise, can help you limit your calorie intake, resulting in sustainable weight loss.
